Simulate Functional Virtual Prototypes Faster with LMS DADS 9.6

Press Release Date15 Dec 2000

LMS International, the pioneer and recognized worldwide leader in delivering tools and processes for hybrid simulation, announces the release of LMS DADS 9.6, the most full-featured and accurate mechanical simulation software available. Manufacturers around the world use DADS virtual prototyping capabilities to predict and analyze the dynamic behavior of vehicles, aircraft, and other mechanical systems during the design phase. This release is part of a comprehensive suite of physical and digital prototyping tools from LMS that enable engineers to integrate actual test data with virtual prototypes to optimize the durability, acoustic, vibration and dynamic performance of their products, reduce engineering costs, and shorten time to market.

DADS 9.6 provides significant customer-driven enhancements in both the Dynamic and Static Solvers resulting in solution speed improvements of 10 to 100 times for certain applications. The open architecture of DADS allows template-based interfaces to be designed that capture engineering knowledge through parameterized forms for specific simulation applications such as engines, timing belts, landing gear, motorcycles, vehicle suspensions and more. Additionally, improved interfaces to other LMS Test and CAE products for Durability, Vibro-Acoustics, and Optimization are making it possible to analyze multiple design concepts and optimize product performance for multiple attributes in a single day.

"This new release of LMS DADS, continues to advance the LMS process of Hybrid Simulation, an approach where physical test results are combined with virtual prototypes to optimize designs upfront in the development cycle", states Tom Curry, vice president LMS International. "LMS is aggressively providing the tools and methods demanded by our customers to streamline the process of functional performance engineering. Our products and services are enabling manufacturers to improve design quality while saving millions of dollars and reducing design-cycles by twelve months or more."

LMS DADS 9.6 Enhancements:

  • Dynamic and Static Solver Speed-up - In some applications, solution speeds have been improved by a factor of 10 to 100 without any loss in accuracy. Also provides enhanced support for the Harwell Sparse Matrix Solver and Analytical Jacobians for all elements, which results in solver stability and faster solutions.
  • Durability and Vibro-Acoustics Interface – Provides improved use of load time history results as inputs to fatigue studies with LMS TecWare and LMS FALANCS. Additionally, surface velocities can be exported for Vibro-Acousticc studies with LMS SYSNOISE.
  • Optimization Interface – Enables users to perform Design of Experiments and Response Surface Modeling of mechanical system design parameters quickly and easily with the state-of-the-art technology of LMS OPTIMUS.
  • Support for Flexible Bodies in the Expression Elements – Simplifies using custom equations to represent complex system behavior. These elements can now be applied as a force directly to flexible bodies.
  • Differential Equation Element – Streamlines the process of using first order differential equations as force inputs to the mechanical system so that users are able to define custom forces such as hydraulic actuators or shock absorbers.
  • Drivers Reference Expression - Driver Elements are able to reference user-defined equations in an Expression element. This allows a custom equation to define the kinematic relationships in a system without the need to write a user-defined sub-routine.
  • Force Feedback in Expression Force Elements - Equations defined by the user in an expression element to apply forces onto a system can now include terms that are measured from other force elements in the model.
  • Tire Element Enhancements - The Tire Element Subroutine has been updated to make it more efficient. Numerous utilities were created to aid users in writing and updating their own tire routines. The Distributed Contact Tire normal force algorithm has been improved for better ride simulations. The Tire Carcass Model allows modeling of carcass displacement and vibration effects.
