LMS Introduces Revision 5 of LMS Test.Lab

Press Release Date25 May 2004

LMS International announced the introduction of LMS Test.Lab Rev 5 at the 2004 edition of Automotive Testing Expo in Stuttgart, Germany. LMS Test.Lab is an integrated software suite for noise & vibration testing and engineering. LMS Test.Lab offers a complete portfolio, including solutions for rotating machinery, structural and acoustic testing, environmental testing, vibration control, test data processing, reporting and data sharing. LMS Test.Lab Rev 5 introduces a complete range of new and enhanced modules and capabilities that further innovate and accelerate noise and vibration testing: efficient geometry definition methods for modal testing, breakthrough LMS PolyMAX modal parameter estimation methods for operational modal analysis, a revolutionary solution for torsional vibration testing, enhanced capabilities for mobile testing, sound quality analysis and diagnosis, a complete solution for environmental testing, and new functionality for test data management, including support of ASAM.

In today’s ever-shorter development cycles, fewer physical prototypes are available, for shorter time periods. As a consequence, rapidly executed tests must deliver bottom-level insights that engineering teams can count on to identify the root causes of noise and vibration issues. With LMS Test.Lab Rev 5, LMS continues to support its customers in realizing breakthrough productivity gains throughout their testing and analysis process. Coupled with the mobile LMS SCADAS 305, LMS Test.Lab Rev 5 now offers enhanced capabilities for a high performance mobile testing system that can be installed just as easily in the test laboratory as in a proving ground test vehicle. Recent reports by LMS Test.Lab users on benchmarks and production use of LMS Test.Lab showed productivity gains of more than 50% in many structural and signature test procedures.

In the field of Structural Testing, LMS Test.Lab Rev 5 supports the revolutionary LMS PolyMAX modal analysis method for operational modal analysis. This modal parameter estimator drastically speeds up and simplifies the modal analysis curve-fitting task, especially for highly damped structures or complex assemblies. Customer tests on a fully trimmed car body models prove that LMS PolyMAX is much easier to use, dramatically faster and provides superior results. LMS Test.Lab Rev 5 also supports an open link to geometry definition systems from AICON, which significantly accelerates the definition of test coordinates and transducer orientations for noise and vibration testing.

LMS Test.Lab Rev 5 introduces a new Sound Diagnosis module that provides complete capabilities for sound quality analysis and diagnosis, and strongly simplifies the subjective evaluation and diagnosis of sound. While listening to the measured sound, users can interactively apply different filters and easily assess the disturbing elements in the sound. A quantitative assessment, with the calculation of online or off line psycho-acoustic metrics completes the evaluation.

LMS Test.Lab Rev 5 delivers a new real time measurement and processing solution for torsional vibration analysis. An in-depth understanding of torsional vibrations has become increasingly important in the noise and sound quality optimization of transmission systems, clutches and differentials. Unlike traditional methods that typically use counters for this, LMS Test.Lab is fully based on digital signal processing and uses the new dedicated LMS SCADAS III QTV input module. With this capability, the analysis of the effect of rotational speed variation on the global noise or vibration behavior becomes more accurate and easier than ever before.

With Rev 5, LMS Test.Lab delivers a complete environmental testing solution. It completes its vibration control offering by introducing the random-on-random workbook, offering narrowband and multi-sine test capabilities, as well as enhanced on-line monitoring features. The LMS environmental test solution can be used just as easily for single-axis vibration control testing of automotive components as for qualification testing performed on full-system space flight models including 1,000+ measurement channels. Moreover, it is deployable as one large test configuration with a high channel count, or as multiple smaller setups operating simultaneously

“More than 350 leading manufactures have chosen LMS Test.Lab for its breakthrough productivity, its broad application scope and its tight integration with LMS SCADAS III. Companies like Audi, FIAT, PSA PEUGEOT CITROËN, Bosch, ZF, Atlas Copco, Gillet General Electric, Magna Steyer, Rieter Tokai Rubber, Mercury Marine, Valeo, ESA, EADS, Spectrum Astro and many others have adopted LMS Test.Lab for structural, acoustic or environmental testing,” commented Filip Pintelon, Corporate Vice-President and General Manager of the LMS Test Division. “ With LMS.Lab Rev 5, we extend the application reach of LMS Test.Lab and we continue to deliver a direct response to the testing and engineering challenges of world-class manufacturing companies.”
