LMS多体仿真软件帮助工程师调整悬架设计，提升赛车操纵特性，开发更具竞争力的赛车
比利时，鲁汶——意大利赛车制造商Picchio S.p.A.采用LMS Virtual.Lab Motion多体动力学仿真软件，设计赛车的悬架装置，包括封闭式（赛车）驾驶室的Grand-Am和Daytona级车型。Picchio公司为了扩展其业务，还使用LMS软件开发客户定制的、适于道路驾驶的高性能跑车。
Picchio公司于1989年由赛车工程界的传奇人物Giotto Bizzarrini创立，开发了大量的物理样车，并且在1998年首次推出了完全由Picchio公司自主设计和构建的赛车。Picchio公司从成立至今，取得了骄人的成绩，并确立了其在著名赛事中的较高地位，例如意大利Hill Climb锦标赛以及在Daytona举办的24小时拉力赛。
虽然Picchio公司目前是赛车行业的领军者，但是仍面临着巨大挑战——如何提高赛车的竞争力，例如通过优化悬架系统提高赛车速度，提供更佳的操纵稳定性和灵活性。在即将开展的GT系列跑车的悬架开发中，也面临着这一问题，希望新型跑车在保证安全性的同时，还具有赛车特有的驾驶感觉。
“如果仅仅依赖物理样车试验来开发悬架装置，我们的能力将受到一定的限制，”Picchio公司高级设计工程师Christian Stronati解释说。“我们需要新的设计方法，在减少创建和测试物理样车次数的前提下达到最优设计。对于我们来说，比较合理的方法是使用多体仿真软件来预测悬架特性。这样有助于我们进行重复性试验，直至满足关键品质属性的要求。”
通过与其他软件的详细比较，Picchio公司最终采用了LMS Virtual.Lab Motion多体动力学仿真软件，用于模拟整车的操稳性和平顺性。LMS多体仿真软件具有专业的模块，能够创建前后轴悬架模型，包括柔体部件，例如弹簧、衬套和阻尼器。“LMS Virtual.Lab Motion多体仿真软件将我们所需的各种功能集成在一个软件包中，并且直观的图形界面非常便于操作。这对于我们来说非常有利，因为我们的工程师之前在多体仿真方面的经验比较少，”Stronati解释道。他还指出LMS软件可以方便地直接从Pro/Engineer CAD系统导入悬架装置的几何模型。
Stronati表示：“LMS Virtual.Lab Motion让我们可以在虚拟的试验跑道中驾驶汽车模型，来查看汽车的操纵稳定性。同时我们可以浏览悬架装置的详细模型、载荷数据表、加速度和各种参数。通过这种方式，我们能够通过研究关键部件改动的效果来调整悬架系统的性能，例如修改减震器。这样，LMS软件使得我们能够更好地将Picchio公司积累的工程经验用于开发创新性跑车。”
